Corner Boys

It was too hot today to have much of a photo shoot, but I caught Willie and Oates holding down their corner early this morning.

Checkmate

Willie howled at Oates' intimidation tactics as they resumed their usual Sunday afternoon match.

Empty Park

Ok, so it's NYC so there is at least one weirdo lurking in the background, but otherwise Willie and Oates had this park to themselves,

Twenty Years

Today marks exactly twenty years of living on Manhattan. These guys have been with me for the last thirteen of them, so they took me out to lunch this afternoon. Willie and Oates are by far the best thing that has happened to me in that time.

More Park Fun

Willie and Oates stopped back at the new park tonight, enjoying the new park smell.

The Park Is Closing

Tonight Willie and Oates were able to catch the last snatch of daylight in the local, privately-run Jefferson Park before closing.

Monday, August 24, 2015

Sidewalk Staredown

I'm not sure what caught their eye down the street, but I do know it's hard to get Willie and Oates smiling when I come home this late from work.

Sunday, August 23, 2015

Side Eye

While Oates tried his best delirious begging face, Willie gave him some side eye.

Saturday, August 22, 2015

In The Shadows

The weird glow competing with the sunset tonight came from a temporary light tower on the pier, apparently installed to facilitate a public dance event of some sort. Neither Willie or Oates partook.

Friday, August 21, 2015

New Park

Today was the opening of a brand new neighborhood park. The disco floor lights inspired Oates to do his best Donna Summer impersonation for his brother Willie.

Scaffolding Moonlight

This is what my dogs looked like when I returned home after an eighteen hour work day and took them out in the rain. Here, they had a brief respite from the downpour thanks to the building scaffolding, which also lent an eerie light to this picture.

I Wish You Love

These dogs heard the Marlene Dietrich version before they fed on insignificant bullshit. But we know. Dietrich. Not playing.

Tuesday, August 18, 2015

Flower Box

Willie and Oates found reason to smile on a muggy, dreary early morning.

Monday, August 17, 2015

Wine Store Closed

Willie and Oates stopped at their local wine store only to find that it had long been closed.

Water Spill

This afternoon, the boys immediately spilled the water bowl our waitress thoughtful brought them. This picture is my only clue was to which of them was guilty. Maybe both.

Graffiti And Grass

This abandoned lot where Willie and Oates stood was once the purveyor of that scourge of the city: bikes. Here, Willie and Oates reflect on their vanquished enemy.

Under Construction

Willie and Oates added a little glamour to the unsightly tangle of construction objects clotting this busy intersection.

Same As It Ever Was

We old dogs can only walk so far. Especially when we're this busy. This is a different angle of the same picture in the rain a couple days ago.

Wednesday, August 12, 2015

The Village Vanguard

Tonight, when Willie and Oates stopped in front of their favorite local jazz haunt, The Village Vanguard, they drew a a bigger crowd on the street then anyone did downstairs.

Rainy Day Double Take

Oates shot Willie a look when Willie said he didn't mind a little rain.

Monday, August 10, 2015

Monday Mood

This was the mood that came with an uncharacteristically early morning walk to start the workweek. Willie and Oates could not crack a smile no matter how much I pleaded.

Sunday, August 9, 2015

Post Brunch

Willie and Oates took a minute after brunch to watch some of the tourists get lost in our little neighborhood.

Saturday, August 8, 2015

New Park

After months of mysterious plywood walls, a new neighborhood park was revealed today. But it's not open yet. Oates was in shock as Willie demanded an explanation for why he was dragged there.

The Big Bagel

This bit of street art confused the boys, who were licking the fake bagel right before this shot.

Thursday, August 6, 2015

Our Street

Our street means these two don't take anyone's shit. Willie is the prince of the West Village. Oates is the neighborhood tough. This was taken just after an ugly but not unusual incident where a taxi driver honked and yelled slurs at the man holding their leash, who in turn kicked the cab and begged the driver to come out for an ass-whipping. Which sadly did not come to pass. Look who has the triumphant smile on his face.

The Company Of A Child

This afternoon, Oates and Willie stood on the outside of a children's park.

Tuesday, August 4, 2015

Barbershop

Willie enjoyed the sun while Oates inquired about the senior citizen discount at the barbershop.
